This Austin Heavy 12 Diecast Model Car is Airways Blue and has working wheels and also comes in a display case. It is made by Oxford Diecast and is 1:43 scale (approx. 9cm / 3.5in long). Launched in 1921 - it was the second of Herbert Austin's post WWI models and until it ceased production in 1939 - over 88 -000 were produced. It was initially available as a Tourer with four seat and two/four seat styles - both costing 550 - as well as a coupe version which cost slightly more at 675. The car was highly popular during the 1920s and while the mechanical specifications did not change very much - there were several body styles of the 'Heavy 12' including a taxi option which lasted until the end of the 1930s. Body style variations included the replacement of fabric-covered 'pram hood' tops in 1931 and no open cars at all after 1934. The wheels also had a makeover when the solid wheels became spoked wheels in 1933. In 1940 - the War Department took the last of the 12/4 cars that Austin produced. Our version - resplendent in authentic Airways Blue - comes with the 'fabric' top and spoked wheels - with radiator surround and bonnet detail - lights - door handles - mirrors - wind surround and wheel centres - all commonly known as 'brightwork' - picked out in polished 'brass' finish. Other features including the mudguards and running board are finished in black. Note too - the spare wheel on the back.

Diecast models are manufactured to various scales based on measurements taken from the actual vehicles. The rule to remember is the higher the scale number, the smaller the model!

So, 1:2 scale quite ltierally means it is 1/2 (half) the size and 1:4 scale means it is 1/4 (quarter) the size.  Here is a rough guide to the size of our models although this will vary depending on the size of the actual vehicle. Please note that the scale and size of models differs per department. Please refer to the individual product page to find out the estimated size of the actual model you would like to purchase.
