This Skoda Winnetou Resin Model Car is Red. It is made by Autocult and is 1:43 scale (approx. 9cm / 3.5in long). In 1968 - a small roadster was presented to the public under the name Škoda Winnetou - which resulted from the initiative of the Swiss Borgward and Goliath importers - the company Glättli AG.

The company was not able to manufacture their own car - however it was dreaming of its own small - two-seater sports car. As they were also distributing the brand "Škoda" - besides the automobiles of Borgward and Goliath - they found a suitable chassis in the sedan MB 1000 in the product range of the Czechoslovakian brand for their own creation. The optics of the basic car hardly corresponded to the ideas of a sporty car with its conservative appearance - however with little fantasy - a racy small roadster could be derived from the engine and chassis.

This imagination had obviously an effect on the Swiss people at the company Glättli. The cornerstone was laid for an agile two-seater with a wheel base of 2400 millimeters. A further advantage - which spoke for the MB 1000 - was the steel frame - which was fixed on the car body. The Swiss engineers really appreciated this frame construction - as they created their car body so it would also be fixed on this skeleton.
But the new car body should be made of the material GRP - and for its production the Swiss found a suitable company called Suren who was located in Aachen. The gentlemen may have been inspired by the American "Type D" car of Bill Devin's company Devin Enterprises.

In 1968 the company Glättli was presenting their prototype on the well-known fairs of Paris and Geneva with the feeling of putting an attractive small roadster on its wheels. On the information desk in front of the car it was written in big letters: "Winnetou - prototype - Škoda ". The basic information was: 52 hp - a maximum speed of 125 km/h - a weight of 590 kilograms and a sales price of 7.900 Swiss francs.
Obviously not as many people as expected were interested in the two-seater. The result was that the Swiss company did not continue the Winnetou project and therefore no production could be started - according to current knowledge.

Diecast models are manufactured to various scales based on measurements taken from the actual vehicles. The rule to remember is the higher the scale number, the smaller the model!

So, 1:2 scale quite ltierally means it is 1/2 (half) the size and 1:4 scale means it is 1/4 (quarter) the size.  Here is a rough guide to the size of our models although this will vary depending on the size of the actual vehicle. Please note that the scale and size of models differs per department. Please refer to the individual product page to find out the estimated size of the actual model you would like to purchase.
